Final Countdown!
There is now just over 24 hours left until the last Atomic Dodgeball match for 2010.
The title is up for grabs tomorrow at 4pm.
The Dream Team are taking on the Little Saints, and will be looking for payback after being embarrassed in the previous tournament.
Here's a look at the short history of these two teams.
Overall, the stats indicate that the Little Saints are a superior team. However, the Dream Team are the ones with all the momentum heading into tomorrow's final.
The Dream Team have played this tournament with a lot of control. They have had no big scores, but have not conceded a single point in this tournament.
It is also worth noting that when these teams met on November 9, it was the very first loss for the Little Saints in Atomic Dodgeball (they were 5-0 all-time before that match) . In their only match since they played shakily were eventually beaten 4-3 by the unfavoured Looney Smurfs.
So now we look forward to 4pm tomorrow, when the Dream Team and the Little Saints will go out for final honours in 2010. History says the Little Saints are stronger, while current form says the Dream Team are smarter.
Which way will it go? Be at the Atomic Sports Centre at 4pm tomorrow to find out!!

Deja Vu
The final round of play for Atomic Dodgeball in 2010 has now been completed. Next Tuesday's Final will have a sense of deja vu, as we see the two finalists from our previous tournament square up for the title again. This time however, the tables are turned. The Dream Team enter the final with all the momentum in this tournament, while the Little Saints are struggling for form.
Yesterday afternoon, the Dream Team played The Guys and The Girls in a match of no consequence, with one team already guaranteed a final, and the other already eliminated. There was no intensity in the match, as the Dream Team (underhanded as usual) watched the clock run, while laughing at the throwing from their opponents. The first half ended scoreless. The second half looked to get off to a quick start, with the Dream Team getting two opponents out straight off the line. However, play slowed again when two of their own got thrown out. Dream Team captain, Peter, held it together again eating time. His throws were narrowly missing his opponents, while their's were clearing him by metres. Eventually, Peter threw The Guys and The Girls out to score the only point of the game. As I've said previously, this team knows how to wait, and they now enter the final match of 2010 with clean sheet for the tournament.
Yesterday's second match was to determine our other finalist. The Looney Smurfs were up against it, needing to beat the Little Saints by seven points to leapfrog them into the final. It didn't take long to confirm that the Smurfs were out of contention, with the Little Saints taking an early 2-0 lead. Into the second half, the match went up a gear, as the Smurfs started coming back. This match went right down to the wire. With one minute remaining, the scores were locked at 3. The Smurfs score one last time, leaving a few seconds of play left after the reset. Final Score: Looney Smurfs 4, Little Saints 3.
The final will be played in four 7-minute quarters, starting at 4 o'clock next Tuesday (Nov 30).
Keep an eye out Monday for a preview of the final!

It's a different game
As we near the end of Atomic Dodgeball for 2010, the finishing positions of our final tournament are starting to take shape. A mid-tournament withdrawal by the Chiefs has put a spin on finals qualification. The Dream Team, despite having a bye yesterday, is now secured in the final. They are yet to concede a point in this tournament, having shown very different form than what they had become known for previously.
*Secured final spot
Yesterday's only match saw the Looney Smurfs take on The Guys and The Girls, with both teams fighting to stay alive in the tournament. However, fighting is probably the wrong word. This was a match full of hesitation. The Looney Smurfs eventually crawled to a 2-0 halftime lead. For some reason, this wasn't enough to spur The Guys and The Girls into action. With time against them, they continued to play a waiting game, finally scoring with about a minute and a half left. The Smurfs were switched on, and simply ran the clock down by not throwing any balls away. The Looney Smurfs, eventual winners 2-1.
The Guys & The Girls are now out of final contention. The Looney Smurfs have a slim shot next week to make the final. They will need to beat the Little Saints by 7 points or more.

Dodgeball Round 3
Last week saw two very different dodgeball matches take place. We had a high scorer, and a very low scorer.
In the first match, the Looney Smurfs opened the scoring against the Chiefs, and looked promising. The Chiefs quickly got one back, and the pushed ahead. The Looney Smurfs managed to hang close until part way through the second half. The Chiefs slowly opened the gap as the game wore on, and eventually cruised to a 6-3 win. The Looney Smurfs showed they can play well, and with time will improve.
The second match was very different, very slow, and almost painful to watch. The Dream Team ground their way to a 1-0 halftime lead. The Little Saints were becoming loud, possibly trying to put their opponents off their game. However, it wasn't to be. If there's one thing the Dream Team are good at, it's waiting. They held it together slowly played out the second half, collecting one more point on their way to a 2-0 win.
This was the first loss for the Little Saints since they began playing in September. It's proven they are beatable, and starts to make the table interesting as we head toward our final on November 30th.

Little Saints Keep Rolling
In their first match of the current competition, the Little Saints have continued their winning form.
In the only match played on Tuesday, they completely outplayed The Guys & the Girls (who were playing without any girls). In reality, The Guys & the Girls never looked like scoring. With an under strength team, they were disorganised the whole match. While Kea again pulled off a couple of good catches, he missed plenty. The team were blind to many of the balls that threw them out. If The Guys & the Girls want to start climbing the table again, they'll need to be more organised and aware on the court. The Little Saints were far more aware of each other and of where the balls were. They were barely troubled, cruising to a 5-0 win.

Dodgeball!
Yesterday saw the start of another new dodgeball competition.
The first match was a very slow one. The Chiefs scored first, and it looked like there'd be some decent scoring. However, The Guys and the Girls played (or didn't play) very hesitantly. The match eventually ground to a 1-1 draw.
The second match saw a brand new team, The Looney Smurfs, playing against the Dream Team. If you've been following, you'll be aware that the Dream Team are known for turning up with half a team, and under-performing. Things looked set to continue when again they need to use two fillers for yesterdays match. Somehow though, they found some rare form. Sam (Dream Team) made a couple of good hits with deep, curving throws, and his team-mates threw some rockets at the newbies. The Looney Smurfs were completely outdone in their first match of Atomic Dodgeball, losing 4-0.
The Little Saints had a bye yesterday, and start work on defending their title next week, against The Guys & the Girls.

And the Winner is...
The Little Saints!!
Yesterday afternoon, in our final of four 7-minute quarters, they embarrassed the Dream Team, winning 8-1.
The Little Saints were all over the older Dream Team, and outclassed them with superior throwing & catching.
Next Tuesday, we commence the next competition. At 4 o'clock, the Chiefs take on The Guys & the Girls. That will be followed by the new Looney Smurfs up against the Dream Team. Here's hoping that our older teams do some work over the next week, and find some form as they move into a new competition.
Our champion Little Saints have a bye next week.

Atomic and CanTeen
In a couple of weeks, local CanTeen member, Keanu Hadland, is having his head shaved to raise funds for his charity. Atomic will be hosting this event, and it is a great opportunity to boost the profile of CanTeen, and of Atomic.
This is taking place on Saturday, October 30th, at 10:30am.
We will be cutting his hair off out the front of Atomic, weather permitting.
If it's wet, we'll hold it inside.

It would be great for as many people as possible to come along and show support for this great cause!
